It was a challenging return for F1 drivers following the summer break with Circuit Zandvoort claiming many casualties on the first day of on-track action, and Oscar Piastri is now under scrutiny by the Stewards.

During FP2 following Alexander Albon's crash, Oscar Piastri was making his way back to the pits when a bizarre moment took place.

As he turned into the McLaren pitbox, he realised it was not his crew welcoming him into the garage.

The Australian driver then veered left, unexpectedly so.

Behind him however, there was an incoming George Russell, and what ensued was a scruffy pitlane near-crash that nearly took both drivers out.

Russell tried to take evasive action, locking up and turning away from Piastri's MCL39, narrowly missing what would've been yet another session neutralisation.

During the session it was announced the incident between both drivers had been noted by race officials. Now, in a last minute development, the Stewards have announced they will indeed investigate the near-collision.
