The potential of both McLaren cars being disqualified from the Las Vegas GP would have a significant impact on the 2025 drivers championship.

It would give Max Verstappen a crucial 25-point swing on both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, bringing him to within 24 points of the Briton's championship lead.

Verstappen would rise to P2 in the world championship, alongside Piastri on 366 points, while Norris' total would be cut down to 390 points.

For Norris the 24-point margin would remain the same but he would be within a race result of two drivers instead of one.

Just two events remain in 2025 as the first of a triple-header season finale comes to a close.

F1 travels to Qatar for a Sprint weekend next time out, with a total of 33 points up for grabs. The season will then come to a close in Abu Dhabi one week later.

McLaren summoned to stewards

The FIA has summoned both McLaren cars to the stewards following the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Both cars failed were investigated for a technical infringement following post-race scrutineering.

The FIA deemed that rearmost skid block on both Norris and Piastri's McLaren cars was below the minimum 9mm thickness required to pass the legality test.

Led by Nikolas Tombazis, the FIA representatives were present in the McLaren garage following the finish of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which was won by Verstappen from Norris and Mercedes driver George Russell behind.

Stella to skip media session

The McLaren team also confirmed to waiting journalists in Las Vegas that there will be no media session by team principal Andrea Stella tonight, but there will be a statement after the FIA verdict is official. A clear indication that it is likely to be a double disqualification for Norris and Piastri.
