Max Verstappen managed two surprising victories in 2025. Starting from an eighth position on the Hungaroring, it will be quite a challenge to add a third win to that. The Red Bull Racing driver himself doesn't expect it, as he thinks there will be no more victories this season.
No anger, only resignation. After three free practice sessions in which Verstappen was not found at the front of the field, an eighth place could secretly be seen as a victory. From the Dutch press - including GPblog - Verstappen could only come to one conclusion: "I have been outside the top ten more than in the top ten this whole weekend. So in that regard, it is of course positive. But for us, that is just not good," Verstappen said calmly. "I can get angry, but that doesn't make the car go any faster."
With the unpredictable RB21 from Red Bull, Verstappen has already experienced a fair amount of adversity this season. But: "I never expected it would be our best weekend. But it was too hard."
Verstappen is not looking forward to the potential rain that could fall on Sunday.
Why is it not going well for the Austrian team this weekend? "It's just something fundamental this weekend. We've tried a lot this weekend and of course you have ideas, but you can't always voice them here. So we just have to analyze everything."
Scoring as many points as possible will be Verstappen's mission on Sunday. The Dutchman does not contemplate a podium, let alone a win. Worse even, the 2025 season will likely go out like a dying flame for him. In response to the question of whether he expects to win a Grand Prix under normal conditions this year, he responded negatively.
"No. Not at the moment, no. Well, that's the way it is, isn't it? It is quite clear."
