Although his name might not be very well known to the general public, Greg Reeson plays a significant role in the successes of Max Verstappen. Reeson, the tyre technician for the Austrian racing team, knows the Dutchman quite well after a decade of working with Verstappen. The technician can get extremely annoyed when the media portray Verstappen differently than he is in reality.
"Verstappen is very different from how he is often depicted in the media. After all these years, it still makes me furious when I read all that bulls**t about him in the media. Things are said and written that are simply not true. Fortunately, Max is an adult and can easily ignore these things. I still find it difficult. I would so much like people to get to know the real Max Verstappen," says Reeson in De Limburger.

Does the media like to bash Verstappen?

The Red Bull Racing employee does not specify which media he refers to. But of the reports that come out against the Dutchman most are from UK outlets. Verstappen and Sky Sports reporter Ted Kravitz had a heated interview, and after which the journalist described the Red Bull Racing driver as 'unreceptive' and 'potentially negative'. Former champion Damon Hill, and former FIA Steward have also been vocal critics of Verstappen.

Max Verstappen is different from how the media perceive him
Verstappen has been protrayed in many ways on the media, which leads to him being shone in a bad light, but according to Reeson, this could not be further from the truth: "Max is phenomenal. A killer in the car, but one of the nicest people I know outside of it. In the garage, he's just one of the guys. Always up for a chat. Genuinely interested, too."
For four consecutive seasons, Verstappen has managed to become champion, but a fifth title seems to be difficult at the moment. However, the Red Bull team does not give up: "We have something that the rest don't have: Max Verstappen, the best Formula 1 driver. You can never count him out."
