No one knows better than Andy Cowell what it's like to work with the same team for a long time. The Brit worked for Mercedes for twelve years, where he was partly responsible for the team's greatest successes on the engine department. For all those years, Christian Horner - more than two decades - as team boss of Red Bull Racing was one of his biggest rivals.

Toto Wolff has already indicated missing Christian Horner due to the rivalry with the Brit.

Andy Cowell also worked with Wolff at Mercedes for many years. He is now the team boss at Aston Martin as Horner was pushed aside by Red Bull, the team he built from the ground up.

Cowell did not see this coming, he says in response to a question from GPblog.

"Yes, I was surprised," responds the team boss of the ambitious Aston Martin.

"It's an industry where senior people can be changed out fairly quickly, so competitive [a] sport."

Admiration for Horner

"But yeah, the work that Christian's done over two decades, taking a very young team and growing it into a team that's won lots of championships and always maintained a high performance level. You've got to take the effort and the work and the results that he's achieved."

Horner has barely left as Red Bull Racing's top boss when his name already pops up at other teams.

Cadillac is rumored to be interested in his services. However, Cowell doesn't want to say that he sees Horner returning to the sport at some point.

"I don't know. I guess it's down to him and job offers and we'll wait and see," concludes the Brit.
