Toto Wolff ruled out any legal action from Mercedes should the solution found on the engine compression ratio be banned.
“There is no such scenario as we would sue anyone”- Toto Wolff
The discussion surrounding Mercedes’ engine and the alleged ‘trick’ that could allow it to secure a significant horsepower advantage while staying within the regulations by exploiting a grey area has been one of the main talking points — if not the hottest topic — during the Bahrain test as well.
Asked whether Mercedes would take the matter to court if it were indeed forced to rework its power unit, the Austrian was firm in his response: “There is no such scenario as we would sue anyone.”
“In my opinion, in Formula 1 it is more essential than ever that you know what the rules are. But engineering ingenuity is always respected. That’s why we’re always going to respect the governance of the sport. If the governance of the sport decides to change the rules, be it against our rules, you just have to get along with it.”

Despite Mercedes being under the spotlight over the aforementioned issue, the Silver Arrows’ team principal was keen to shift the focus onto Red Bull, pointing to the RB22 as the current benchmark based on what has been seen over the first three days of testing in Bahrain.
The Austrian in particular highlighted the RB22’s ability to deploy energy far more efficiently than its rivals, which would translate into a significant performance advantage on every lap.
