According to Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari should start looking for a new driver. An astonishing statement for a seven-time world champion, but is there any truth in it?

Lewis Hamilton has been walking around the Formula 1 paddock defeated ever since the Belgian Grand Prix. In Belgium, Hamilton was able to recover with a catch-up race, but in Hungary, everything went wrong for Hamilton. He did not make it to Q3 of the qualifying session and also failed to earn points during the race.

After qualifying, Hamilton was hard on himself on Saturday. "The team has no problem, you've seen the car is on pole, so we probably need to change driver."

Drivers are miked up immediately after qualifying and are still full of emotion, but even after the race, Hamilton still harboured the same opinion. "Not particularly, when you have a feeling, you have a feeling. There's a lot going on in the background that's not great," said the extremely disappointed Hamilton. When asked if he has lost his love for F1, he stated, "No, I still love it."

Should Lewis Hamilton retire?

Yet, the pressure on Hamilton is mounting. During the session with the written media, a British tabloid journalist posed to Vasseur that Ferrari pays a hefty sum to Lewis Hamilton (reportedly 50 million dollars, edt), but did the team boss feel he was getting value for his money? There was an awkward silence. "I'm not sure I understand your question," said the Frenchman. "Or if I understand, it's not a good one."

Hamilton is still defended by his team boss. Logical, but it is also right that critical questions are being asked. Hamilton was brought in as the new superstar to Ferrari and has yet to deliver. Hamilton has a two-year contract, but openly says that Ferrari should replace him.

The statement after the Hungarian Grand Prix is as follows:
