'Haas says goodbye to Mazepin, Fittipaldi will test in Bahrain next week'

Haas seems to have tied the knot: Nikita Mazepin will not drive for the team from America this season. This is reported by the German Sky Sports. As a result, it also seems increasingly likely that UralKali will not be found on the car in 2022.
According to Sky, Pietro Fittipaldi is the driver who will replace Mazepin this season. If the Brazilian will drive the entire season this season, we will have a full-time Brazilian F1 driver back on the grid for the first time since Felipe Massa. Fittipaldi already has two races on his name, when he had to fill in for Romain Grosjean in the end of 2020.

Simply disgraceful of sports bodies to ban Russia, sports create harmony and bring nations closer... First time, politics in sports, bad omen

Rachel5000 05 March 2022 at 01:54+ 280

What the Western world is doing to Russian citizens and sportspeople is much worst than what they acusse Putin of doing (which is no different from what the USA and Great Britain do on a regar basis). Disgusting behavior to take it out on the common folk and hipocrisy at it worst.

Clayton Wilkie 05 March 2022 at 24:06+ 1

The HAAS Team did the right thing in sacking this Russian driver as the HAAS Team is an American Racing Team and are against the Russian Federation invading Ukraine, so this is part of the sanctions against Russia , so why should he get paid when there's sanctions against Russia from countries around the world.

Clayton Wilkie 05 March 2022 at 24:03+ 1

My opinion only, I do believe the HAAS Team has done the right thing in sacking the Russian driver Mazeepin , as the HAAS Team is an American Racing Team who are against the Russian Federation for invading Ukraine and killing of innocence of women and children , people who just walking the streets and homes with people in it , getting blown up with them in it . If he got sacked over this invitation of Russia over the country of Ukraine then blame the the stupid Russian Federation, and Putin for it . I do not feel sorry at all for this sportsman at all , good on the HAAS Team for doing the right thing in part of the sanctions against the Russian Federation. Sports people do suffer due to Wars and it's going on like that for a long time now but when the Russia invaded the Ukraine and threatening Nuclear War against the Ukraine people , so after all in what I just said , I do not feel sorry at all with this Russian driver at all .
Putin end this stupid War you started and end it now...

Doc 04 March 2022 at 22:58+ 3

I really think this was just Haas having an excuse to can him. He will not be missed. By anyone.

Spaghetti888 04 March 2022 at 17:34+ 3

People whining that he's being unfairly treated... He's not out because he's Russian. He's out because his father is too close to Putin, for which the sources of the funding would be questionable and he himself refuses to condemn the war, unlike many other prominent Russians who aren't scared to stick their neck out in the name of peace and all that aren't fkd up. It's also fair because there are many others more deserving of the seat, either performance and sporting-wise or just simply because they're not mysogynistic thugs.

Talon 04 March 2022 at 16:28+ 32

Funny folks here talking about athletes being punished for what is happening in Russia when people are loosing their lives. Well news flash everything is interconnected. Politics sports religion economy. Wake up to the real world there are not more silos. People will use everything in there power to achieve whatever they want. I rather this than Nato/US going in guns blazing and millions more die. Yes the west has blood on there hands and this from what I gather is a different approach to a similar problem
Also Russia really isn't doing this because NATO is on its doorstep. Its doing this because large oil deposits were found in Ukraine and the reason they took crimea is because of the oil deposits in the black sea that would have been under Ukraine's control. So yes Russia is using the same playbook as the west to further its own economic agenda at the expense of an entire population.

Shell was in ukraine to develop the oil sector but pulled out after crimea was taken over. If Russia didn't do that ukraine could have replaced russia as a supplier to the EU. That would be motive enough for EU to actually send troops into the war but they haven't done so as yet. Will publicly at least.

Ockert Van Schalkwyk 04 March 2022 at 14:22+ 4

If this is true im absolutely outraged this man has done nothing wrong except being russian. The sport brags about diversity yet this team does that.

Ockert Van Schalkwyk 04 March 2022 at 14:19+ 4

Im absolutely outraged if this is true you cant take one mans career away just because of his nationality.

Afiq Hzwn Azman 04 March 2022 at 14:09+ 484

I disagree completely with this. Saudi and Israel still scott free even though their leaders and army are doing equally terrible things. Somehow only Russia is paying for this just rubs me the wrong way.

This is horrific. Why should he pay for his father's sins? He has worked hard to reach his drive to drive in F 1 to have it snatched away from him like this. They took all winter to take up the case of Masi and RBR, but kick this innocent kid out in a few days for something he didn't do. Sometimes humans amaze me with their stupidity. It's hard to believe we are at the top of the chain.

I have mentioned before, Mazepin doesnt really deserve to be in F1 based on his raw talents, as there are drivers around who are more talented and quicker, but he doesnt deserve to be kicked out of the sport either, just because he happens to be a Russian.

Well done Haas!

Ukrainians are defending their country and hundreds die everyday. If Ukrainians can't do sport.

Then it would be right that agressor terrorist side russians, can't do either.

Would be wrong to see russians do sport, while ukrainians are dying for defending their children and women.

Just leaving this here: "“From my side, you know, the situation is very clear,” Mazepin said.

“I study in university, and the way it works in Russia, there is a mandatory military service, and there are two ways of serving, if you're fit enough.

“Option one is finishing university and then going for a year. And option two is if you qualify being fit enough in terms of your fitness results and in terms of your studying results, you can go on to something called like the elite army, which is served in a completely different way.

“It's one day a week, and you’re learning to be a reserve officer. And it takes three years, but only one day a week, and it's basically done in a class.

“This is what I'm doing for two years already. And I'm obviously going to continue doing it for one more year to hopefully graduate as a reserve officer."

Any questions?

The US and UK have done far, far worse in the 21st century both some of the most efficient killers the world has ever seen. Illegal wars with the flimsiest justification. Killing hundreds of thousands at will. Some people would call that genocide.

No country or company ever boycotted their events or products, or discriminated against their civilians by simply denying them the right to carry out their profession.

Vish 03 March 2022 at 18:09+ 14459

Especially those who are saying nothing, basically condoning their bloody dictator. If sportspeople were making noise against the war, it would have helped, but maybe they think it's ok, like the Russian football captain, Dzuba, and these have no place in world events. Why didn't Mazepin talk like Vettel for instance?

1984 Orwell 03 March 2022 at 18:34+ 1247

So everyone who supported Tony Blair and his lies on Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria should be punished too. Some idiots actually do believe in their leaders, it is indoctorinated from school and the media.

Vish 03 March 2022 at 19:43+ 14459

Are you comparing Saddam Hussain to Zelenski, or Tony Blair to Putin, seriously?

Vish 04 March 2022 at 06:33+ 14459

All invasions are illegal by the UN charter but some are moral ones. Do you think that not 'invading' Syria and letting Assad and Putin kill millions is fine? Do you know that the majority of the population was against Saddam, Assad? Do you think that the majority of the Ukrainians against their président?

1984 Orwell 03 March 2022 at 19:56+ 1247

I am saying we know Tony Blair more or less invadied parts of the Middle East and North Africa based on pure lies. More people supported Blair's actions from the media, polticians and everyday civilians, should they all be punished because Blait decided to wage wars..yes or no? Furthermore, people voted for Blair AGAIN during the illegal invasions.

Abdul Baasit Ismail 04 March 2022 at 06:08+ 22

As an African I just wanna say; it's a far less than apt comparison and that Tony Blair's motivations to invade were completely baseless. We at least understand that Putin doesn't want his country to be caught out by NATO like sitting ducks. Because NATO is anti Russia. And throwing the word "dictator" around is also a dumb practice.

No1 ever says this about the Queen and look at half the governments in the world; all run with British influence since their "independence" from British colonialists came about.

In negotiations for the freedom of South Africa, one of the things Nelson Mandela had to give up were a large percentage of ownership of our unmined Diamonds and Bullion. To this day there's a law in our country that the government can s3ize your pand and relocate you if you discover a diamond mine in your back yard.

Everyone ignores this, all of this information is public but people ignore it cos it's not broadcast or perpetuated by the networks that should do so

You've swallowed the Kool-Aid in your bloodlust but let's remember what you're saying when China invades Taiwan see if you have the same sentiments cancel everything China let's see how you do with that

User 05 March 2022 at 07:59+ 0

I disagree with what you're saying, or maybe I don't understand fully what you are saying but I think if sportspeople were to speak about the war it would help but only with fund raisers which some help is good help but what about the war in Yemen they should speak about that as well because that is 100 times worse than what's happening in Ukraine (not saying what is happening in Ukraine is good its not, it's bad)
And I definitely agree that sacking Russian drivers or anything just because they Russian is stupid, makes 0 sense

I have a question, why is F1 testing Bahrain ?? at all or we have different measure on humanity in different parts of the world.

Bahrain's record on human rights has been described by Human Rights Watch as "dismal", and having "deteriorated sharply in the latter half of 2010".Their subsequent report in 2020 noted that the human rights situation in the country had not improved.
The government of Bahrain has marginalized the native Shia Muslim population.Torture and forced disappearances are common in Bahrain. The crackdown on protesters during the 2011 Arab Spring brought further human rights complaints, including the destruction of dozens of long-standing Shia mosques.
The Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry was established on 29 June 2011 by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to assess the incidents that occurred in the Kingdom during the period of unrest in February and March 2011 and the consequences of these events. The report was released on 23 November of that year and confirmed that there were some incidents of physical and psychological abuse on detainees. It has been criticized for not disclosing the names of individual perpetrators of abuses and extending accountability only to those who actively carried out human rights violations.

Ferrarifanatic 03 March 2022 at 18:40+ 14286

The problem is, if one starts digging, almost every country has human rights skeletons in the closet!

User Avatar
VeganWarrior 03 March 2022 at 18:46+ 53203

Thats my point, I guess why sport should not be allowed to be used as weapon by politicians, cause at some point the Sporting organization look like hypocrites, like going to Bahrain ?? where the the government of Bahrain has marginalized the native Shia Muslim population. They are currently being tortured and forced disappearances are common in Bahrain.

This is happening right now, just because its not being televised and western media has no interest in showing that to the world its okay. Why is F1 racing in Bahrain ???

Vish 03 March 2022 at 19:50+ 14459

You cannot compare anything to the invasion of Ukraine by Putin, yes in a lot of countries you have human right issues and it's not always black and white, but what Putin just did is completely different. Yes the US invaded Iraq and I was against it the second time, but the big majority of Iraqis wanted to get rid of a bloody Saddam Hussain, as for Bahrein, though I am not condoning what they are doing, there is a big conflict between the Sunnis and Shias, you just cannot compare

User Avatar
VeganWarrior 03 March 2022 at 21:39+ 53203

I agree ,with what you're saying mate. You have to know that both statements can be true. I condemn Putin for what he is doing, but I don't agree with using Sport as a political weapon.

Sport fundamentally is.a uniting force not a dividing one.

Why does one atrocity out way the other, Putins war is terrible and people are dying, government of Bahrain has waged war on the marginalized the native Shia Muslim population. They are currently being tortured and killing them daily. Explain to me with the current stance you're taking why I can't ask for the Bahrain GP to be cancelled .

User Avatar
VeganWarrior 04 March 2022 at 07:25+ 53203

Your not wrong in your comments , and I agree. The excuses given previously by the FIA to have events at these circuits is the FIA is neutral on these issues.

What's your thoughts on this Tennis has taken the stance that Russian players may continue playing as long as they play as neutrals. Svitolina, being Ukrainian, refused to play against any Russian player, but conceded to WTA when she reached a final against a Russian player. She won and agreed that as the players are neutral, they are condemning the Russian invasion. My point is I agree with what you are saying, that the sports people from Russia should not be ostracized just because they are Russian. They should only be targeted if they refuse to take

Vish 04 March 2022 at 06:40+ 14459

Yes you can ask for the Bahrein GP to be cancelled, but I don't think the situation is the same as in Ukraine. The Saudian regime is probably even worse than Bahrein, but Ukraine is the worst of all. In fact, the FIA I think want Russians to speak up but if they agree with what Putin is doing, they they need to feel the pain as well

It's dishonest to compare Mazepin to the average Russian. He's the pampered son of a Russian oligarch with direct ties to Putin, and it's untenable for Haas to keep him as a driver

Anthony Bailey 03 March 2022 at 19:49+ 4525

Bull crap. Mazepin s being excluded because Daddy is Russian oligarch who is n co-hoots with Putin. Enough said !!!

f1fanski 03 March 2022 at 21:32+ 903

we agree on something! I do believe if HAAS severs ties with Uralkai they do so as they a part of the russian oligarchy. To sack any athlete because of their nationality ethnicity would be wrong. The decision to prohibit him from racing at silverstone is wrong.

Visual Ghoul 03 March 2022 at 22:05+ 12

Based on Mazepins performance last year, its well deserved

Christina Carson 03 March 2022 at 23:12+ 9

It's not because he's Russian, it's because Urakali is a Russian company that Haas won't be able to use as a sponsor under the current sanctions. Mazepin is a pay driver so without the money from his father, they wouldn't have any reason to keep him on.

Gpbloganonymous 03 March 2022 at 23:31+ 10

Not just because they are russian. His dad has such close links to Putin that he was summoned to the Kremlin on the day of the Ukraine invasion.

Toni 04 March 2022 at 06:10+ 4300

not quite,I hope. it's because of his sponsor and billionaire father.

Mikko Rantalainen 04 March 2022 at 20:27+ 1

As they should! If you are citizen of Russia, your only objective in the life right now should be to stop the war that Putin started.

If you are Russian, it does hurt you, but you are member of population that gave all the power to Putin so you have to deal with the consequences.

And if you didn't vote, it's your fault, too.

Matthew Brazel 05 March 2022 at 02:14+ 0

Better to ban than to bomb at least.

Better to punish innocent people than take innocent lives

LIONIDUS 05 March 2022 at 09:51+ 0

If you seriously think Mazepin wont drive because he is russian you dont understand how F1 and paydrivers work.
He wont drive because first of all Haas cant keep uralkali as a sponsor (they might bring some money but the damage that would do to Haas image would cost them a lot more) and they dont have the need anymore, so the only reason why Mazepin (the sponsorship money) got into F1 is gone.
Secondly Mazepin might be quite quick but he doesnt belong into F1 because he is a danger to others as shown multiple times last season and in F2 as well he should go and do time trial or something like that
