The second round of qualifying took a massive twist with Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli suffering an elimination.
The Italian driver, who had been matching the pace of the front-runners through much of the weekend, witnessed his second round of qualifying unfold in a manner far from what he would have envisaged.
Antonelli, who was one of the quickest drivers in the opening session of qualifying, was only quick enough for 14th, over three-tenths behind teammate George Russell, who was quickest of the session.

While Antonelli struggled in his session, Red Bull Racing’s Yuki Tsunoda boosted teammate Max Verstappen’s hopes of claiming pole by advancing into the final stages of qualifying. The Japanese driver qualified in 10th place for the final stage of qualifying.
