Better late than never: at the age of 38, James Hinchcliffe is set to make his debut in Formula 1. Haas F1 gives the Canadian driver, currently also an F1 analyst, this opportunity.

A career in IndyCar was what James Hinchcliffe aspired to from an early age: the Canadian did not dream of Formula 1 back then. In the end, the current analyst for F1 TV managed to have a successful career in the American series, and Formula 1 was never part of his path.

But, at the age of 38, there is a change. Talking exclusively in Hungary to GPblog, the current IMSA driver confirmed he will soon be conducting an F1 test with Haas.

Hinchcliffe is excited about the test

"It has a bit of a feature for F1 TV," Hinchcliffe explains, adding that it is a serious test in which Haas wants to gather data. "A TPC (Testing Previous Car), yeah, two-year-old car. Half day, so yes [it is a proper test]."

"Not just ten laps, there is a run plan, the whole thing. Very cool, I am really excited," the Canadian says.

Haas F1 has a serious testing programme this season for the first time, thanks to their collaboration with Toyota. The Japanese manufacturer already had several Japanese drivers complete a test with an old Haas car - now, Hinchcliffe is up next.
