After the 2023 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix had to be cancelled due to flooding, Formula 1 returned to the Italian circuit in Imola in 2024. McLaren continued to show their strength at the time, with Lando Norris just missing out on victory behind Max Verstappen. Max Verstappen managed to take pole position in Qualifying in 2024, which was also his eighth pole position in a row, matching Ayrton Senna's record. Norris completed the front row of the grid.
However, for the battle for the lead, fans had to wait until the final laps the previous season. After the Red Bull driver reported having issues with his tyres, the Briton began to catch up on the hard tyres.
In the end, the Dutchman managed to bring home the victory, but he had to push until the final moment.
Norris finished behind his rival by only 0.725 seconds. With this result, McLaren managed to show their victory in Miami was not a one-off either.
Even with having to cut the Variante Alta chicane once, Charles Leclerc completed the podium in Imola, finishing ahead of Oscar Piastri.
Carlos Sainz finished in fifth position, ahead of the two Mercedes, in the order of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
By this point in the season, Sergio Perez began to struggle at Red Bull. The Mexican only qualified in P11, and after going into the gravel trap once in the Rivazza corners, he managed to finish in eighth position.
Lance Stroll also managed to do well, as the Aston Martin driver finished ninth after completing many overtakes. Yuki Tsunoda completed the Top 10, finishing a lap down.
