As the remaining ten drivers left their garage yesterday for the final part of qualifying no one could have predicted Antonelli to clinch pole pipping both McLarens in the process. But, clinching pole he did. As such he will lead the pack into Turn 1, ahead of Oscar Piastri who's again beaten his teammate, proving the momentum in the championship and within the McLaren team is indeed with the young Australian.
Behind a surprisingly kind on tyres RB21 in the hands of Max Verstappen grabbed P4 ahead of George Russell who will start in P5 four places behind his young teammate. Both Ferraris, lead again by Charles Leclerc will start in P6 and P7 with Alexander Albon, speedy Isack Hadjar and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso rounding off the top 10.
The heat in Miami will make tyre preservation particularly important, hence the tyre choice and the tyre degradation levels on each car will play a major role in deciding who takes home the sprint win. McLaren are still favorites, at least on paper, due to their exceptional tyre management and mighty race pace.
As far as Red Bull goes, Verstappen wasn't particularly excited as per their chances to come away with the win. The RB21's understeer was costing him too much time in the slow corners, and team boss Christian Horner and chief advisor Helmut Marko pointed to Red Bull losing lap time specifically down the straights, indicating the team were down on top speed compared to their rivals.
