With FP1 wrapped up, the cars are ready to return to the Zandvoort circuit for the second session, the final one of the first day of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, before heading into tomorrow’s qualifying and the highly anticipated race on Sunday.
While the first session allowed drivers and teams to get familiar with the circuit, the second session will see things get more serious, with the first qualifying and race simulations—weather permitting.
The risk of rain remains fairly high for the second session, and it’s very likely that at least part of it will take place in wet conditions.
This might not necessarily be bad news, as rain is also expected during qualifying and the race, providing teams with a valuable opportunity to gather data and determine the best setup.
This afternoon, FP2 is expected to see 5–10 mm of rain and relatively low temperatures around 19–20°C. Winds will also pick up, reaching speeds of up to 25 kph.
Max Verstappen is ready to make the most of his home Grand Prix weekend, as he stated on the eve of the race:
“It has been a good summer break, relaxing and spending time with family and friends. It was good to recharge and reset, and we head straight to Zandvoort for the first race back.
As my home race, it is always a special race for me; the atmosphere is amazing and we always have such great support. Driving past a sea of orange when you are racing is an incredible feeling, and I am looking forward to being back. To mark this, I will be wearing my Orange Lion helmet, special cap, and boots.”
The second free practice session will start at 17:00 local time, with GPblog, as always, beginning live coverage from 16:00.
