Fernando Alonso was running in the points all day in Monza, but a suspension failure prevented him from reaping the rewards.

After making it through to Q3 on Saturday, the Aston Martin driver was in the Top 10 all day until his suspension failed.

After the Spaniard could get ahead of Sauber driver Gabriel Bortoleto in the pit lane, but a few laps later he had to retire from the race. The issue occurred as he exited Ascari.

This is not the first time this season that Alonso was comfortably in the points before a DNF, the Spaniard pointed out to GPblog.

"We're using that kerb every lap basically and they (the other drivers, ed.) keep using it. Only on our car we had a suspension problem.

"These things always happen when we have a scoring race. We had some races that we were dead last, and nothing happened when we are running one lap behind the leaders.

"Monaco I think I was P6 [and] retired with an engine problem, today [I] was P7 [and] retired with a suspension problem.

"There are dozens of points that [we missed out on], yeah, luck probably was not with us."

He continued: "It's frustrating that I should have maybe 20-30 points more than what I have not down to me, but it's the way it is.

"Unfortunately, I'm getting used to it."

'I don't need good performances, I need points'

After a difficult weekend for the team at Spa-Francorchamps, both Aston Martin drivers scored points in Hungary and the Netherlands.

The two-time world champion explained he is not just satisfied with good performances, he wants to see those turned into points moving forward this year.

"Nothing really changed. I don't need to have good performance, I need the points.

"The performances are always good. I don't remember having a very bad performance on the team’s or on my side in 22 seasons. So it's not really important.

"I think it's more [about] the ‘26 project at this point. But it's frustrating. Every weekend we try to do well and luck is not with us."
