Kimi Antonelli has praised Max Verstappen as the “dad of the rookies,” while highlighting the Red Bull driver’s crucial role in helping him adjust during his debut Formula 1 season.
“The dad of the rookies. It's been great.”- Kimi Antonelli
Speaking in the Formula 1 rookies season review, the Mercedes driver emphasised the immense impact Verstappen has had on the many young drivers currently on the grid.
“Max has been very supportive of all the rookies,” Antonelli began.
“How do they call him? The dad of the rookies,” interjected Gabriel Bortoleto.

Antonelli continued by also highlighting the support of Lewis Hamilton and others on the grid.
“Yeah, the dad of the rookies. It's been great. Also Lewis. But everyone, to be honest, seems to have embraced the fact that there were so many rookies on the grid.”
The 19-year-old also highlighted the encouragement he received from his family throughout the season.
“They've shown their support in their own way, and, of course, my family. My dad has been there the whole season, and occasionally, my full family was there as well. It's been great, and I think it's the kind of support you need, especially in your first season of Formula 1,” he concluded.
Verstappen became synonymous with mentoring young drivers, often offering time and advice to help them settle into F1. Earlier, ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, Bortoleto also reflected on his relationship with the four-time world champion.
Earlier, Antonelli revealed the key support he received from Verstappen after he faced online abuse in the aftermath of the Qatar Grand Prix.
The Italian, who was overtaken by Lando Norris during the final stretch of the Lusail race, was greeted with unpleasant comments on his social media pages.
