Lando Norris crashed on lap 67 of the Canadian Grand Prix. Instead of finishing fifth, he did not finish at all. According to Martin Brundle, he believes that Norris still has the opportunity to win the championship, but he needs to step up his game. Brundle: Norris's move was clumsy and awkward
During the last 10 laps of the race, the
McLaren drivers were fighting for fourth place. However,
Norris misjudged the gap and hit the wall, ending his race and triggering a safety car.
While he called Norris's move "very clumsy and sort of unnecessary", he also mentioned that Norris was "not very nice".
Speaking to Sky Sports, Brundle said, "Lando probably thought he got him because Oscar was at an acute angle into the final chicane and tight and wide. Oscar wasn't being particularly kind to him, but then why should he? Lando seemed to persevere down that left-hand side when it wasn't on."
He then continued talking about how Norris thought he had it but didn't.
"I don't think it was anything other than not recognising early enough that it wasn't going to happen, followed by wiping his front wing on his rear tyres. It was just very clumsy and sort of unnecessary."
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri
Brundle said, "Lando seems to have weekends which are utterly dominant, like Melbourne and Monaco, or it just all falls apart. It was one of those weekends, sadly for him."
Because Norris did not finish, not only did he fall further behind Piastri, but he also gave Verstappen the chance to gain 18 points over him.
He said, "Lando won't win a World Championship unless he can stop these weekends from happening. It's as simple as that."
