Max Verstappen had a strong qualifying yesterday. The Dutchman managed to drive his Red Bull to second place. It seemed for a moment that the Dutchman would start from pole position, but suddenly George Russell popped up like a jack-in-the-box. Despite this, Verstappen was satisfied and looked ahead to the race.
Verstappen notes his Red Bull is competitive
Verstappen endured a mixed weekend. Across the first free practice session, he was the fastest. FP2 and FP3 were a bit more challenging, but in qualifying, the world champion came to the forefront.
In a thrilling fight with George Russell, the Dutchman just missed out on the first starting spot, but he is ready for the battle. Speaking to media present, he outlined his expectations for the race.
‘’It went fine. I made progress in every session. We planned it like this with the medium [tyre] and everything worked fine, so I'm happy with that. It also felt good yesterday (Friday, ed.). I was quite satisfied with the car. You just have to be careful with the tyres. Yesterday was difficult for everyone in terms of tyre wear, so we try to keep that under control tomorrow, also with the warmer temperatures.’’

Looking ahead to the race, Verstappen naturally aims for the highest possible. What is Verstappen thinking about? ‘’I think we want to be on the podium, try to be as competitive as possible and get the most out of the car. But I'm not sure, we'll probably find out after the race if that worked out. But yes, hopefully, we can just be good at tyre management.’’
After the race, there was a lot of talk about the battle between the Dutchman and George Russell. Directly after the race
the Brit responded with a cheeky joke at Verstappen's expense. The Dutchman himself was asked about the penalty points
on his license and reacted furiously. Helmut Marko, however was full of confidence for the upcoming race and revealed where
Verstappen can make a difference in comparison to Mercedes.
