Charles Leclerc has reflected on Ferrari’s challenging season so far.
"We are all disappointed as a team, and especially with Ferrari you are always targeting to be back on top"- Charles Leclerc
Speaking at the press conference in Singapore, the Monegasque didn’t mince his words: "We are all disappointed as a team, and especially with Ferrari you are always targeting to be back on top and not to fight for second, third, or fourth place in the Constructors’."
He then added: "That’s not what we want. We are not happy, and we’ve got to do better. That’s very clear for every member of the team."
Asked which areas Ferrari still needs to improve, the Monegasque added: "Honestly, if I knew exactly the area where we are lacking, it would be easy work.
"It’s not as easy as that but what I can say is that Mercedes, Red Bull, and ourselves kind of did the same step from last year to this year, but there’s one team that found something special, and that is McLaren. Now it’s up to us to understand what they’ve done so special in order to close that gap.
"I think Red Bull probably found part of the solution—we could see that in the last few races. Mercedes and ourselves didn’t yet, and we are working towards that."
Finally, he added: "We know the areas; how we achieve that is another story, and there’s a lot of work to understand and find the solutions. McLaren did a step that nobody else did."
In his seven seasons with Ferrari so far, Charles Leclerc has yet to truly have a car capable of fighting for the World Championship until the very end — except for last year, when Ferrari managed to battle McLaren for the Constructors’ title right up to the final race.
Although still relatively young, it’s clear that Leclerc’s hunger for victory and desire to fight for a championship are becoming increasingly urgent priorities for both him and his camp, who are now demanding stronger assurances from Ferrari.
Leclerc’s manager, Nicolas Todt, recently assessed his client’s situation. Despite having signed a multi-year contract with the Maranello outfit just a few months ago, Todt hopes Ferrari can deliver a truly competitive package in 2026.
