F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is not concerned about a potential Max Verstappen exit from Formula 1 despite the Dutchman’s strong criticism of the new regulations.

"I met with Max. We know Max will be part of the future of Formula 1. It is very important we listen to him"

Last week, the four-time world champion’s comments caused quite a stir, as he made no attempt to hide his dissatisfaction with the new cars, going as far as to describe the new era of Formula 1 as “Formula 1 on steroids.”

Responding to those remarks, Domenicali revealed that he had held a long and constructive meeting with the four-time world champion on the matter, stressing that the views of such an important asset to Formula 1 will be taken firmly into consideration.

"I met with Max. We know Max will be part of the future of Formula 1. It is very important we listen to him, as we do with all of the top drivers. He has a way of saying something that can be interpreted in a certain way. But I can guarantee to you that Max wants and does care about Formula 1 more than anyone else."

"I had a very constructive meeting with him, and we will have a very constructive meeting with the FIA and with the teams to highlight the point of view as to what he believes needs to be done, which is to keep the driving style at the centre without changing the approach.

Asked why he is so confident that Verstappen will remain on the grid, Domenicali added: "I have a very good relationship with Max. I know him very, very well. I spend a lot of time with him. That is the reason, full stop. And he loves Formula 1, there's no doubt about it."

Verstappen refuses to backtrack on 'Formula E on steroids' sharp dig

Asked to clarify his earlier remarks a week later, the Dutchman stressed that he had merely spoken openly and shared his personal view. He explained that he was simply expressing how he felt, adding that everyone is free to have their own opinion and that he believes he has the right to voice his honestly.

He went on to say that others do not necessarily have to agree with him, but that outside reactions are not his concern. According to Verstappen, he was asked a question and answered it truthfully, insisting his comments were not intended to provoke controversy but were simply a reflection of his genuine thoughts.
