Norris commands Mexico to take championship lead

For the first time since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Lando Norris took the lead of the drivers' championship thanks to a commanding weekend at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

After an impressive qualifying session saw him go three-tenths quicker than any other driver on the grid, the 25-year-old backed that up, never relinqueshing his lead that exceeded 20 seconds.

However, after the Grand Prix, during both the post-race interviews and the podium ceremony, boos rang around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

"I keep my head down, I ignore all of this, keep to myself. It's working at the minute, so I'm happy," was the response of the Brit.

FIA release statement after Mexico GP

After the Mexico City Grand Prix, the FIA released a statement where they explained a couple of decisions made by race control during the race.

A late race retirement for Carlos Sainz saw a virtual safety car come out with only a few laps left, and although it ended with one lap remaining, the battles for P2 and P4 were neutralised, stopping what could have been a grandstand finish.

Max Verstappen was chasing Charles Leclerc for P2 right at the end of the race, but the Dutchman had that chance taken away from him due to the intervention from the FIA.

Along with that, a shocking near-miss also occurred earlier in the race, with Liam Lawson almost colliding with two marshals out on track when they came to collect debris at turn 1.
