Frederic Vasseur understands Max Verstappen's first reaction to the current generation of Formula 1 cars, but expects focus to shift soon.

"But I think after half a session, or one session, their focus will be only on to be faster than the others."

The Ferrari team principal was also asked about the four-time world champion's comments, who said that the current Formula 1 cars are like 'Formula E on steroids'.

"I think you had exactly the same comments in ‘22, and the 2022-25 cars were probably the best for F1," the Frenchman reacted to Verstappen's claim when speaking to GPblog, among others, in Bahrain.

He continued: "I understand the feeling of the drivers that when you come to Bahrain, you are a bit slower than one year ago, their first reaction is that they want to drive something very quick.

"But I think after half a session, or one session, their focus will only be on to be faster than the others.

"It won't be about whether we are doing 1:31s or 1:31.5s, it will be what is the lap time of the others. And it's their DNA and the DNA of every single team."

Vasseur highlights 'mega good' aspect after Bahrain testing

After the first three days of testing in Bahrain, the Frenchman explained that Ferrari is only focusing on its performance.

He commented: “What is mega good is that nobody is speaking about us. I like this situation. We can be focused on ourselves.

"Nobody knows the long stint of the Mercedes, if they are pushing or not, and nobody knows on the one-lap stint if we have 20 kilos, 40 kilos or 60 kilos. This is much more than the difference between the cars. The best way is to shut up and to be focused on ourselves."
