Jenson Button believes this could be Lewis Hamilton's final chance to turn things around.

"If it doesn't work this year, I don't know if it is going to work again."

Lewis Hamilton reportedly clocked the fastest time during the Barcelona shakedown, and finished third behind the two Mercedes drivers on the timesheet last week at the Bahrain International Circuit.

2009 Formula 1 champion Jenson Button believes it will be a career-defining season for his former McLaren teammate.

He told Sky Sports: "It's more about whether he has been able to have an impact on the car itself, that's the thing.

"Jumping into another team against someone that's been there for years is always difficult, but now he's had time with the team, built good relationships, and is hopefully having a lot of input in the direction of the car and how it feels."

Hamilton and Ferrari had a difficult campaign last year. Button predicts that the regulation change is the best opportunity to find his rhythm again.

"It's an important year for him. If it doesn't work this year, I don't know if it is going to work again. This is the perfect opportunity for him to turn it around.

"But also, for Ferrari. It's not been a great few years for them either, so it would be nice to see them fighting for wins again," he concluded.

Button joins Aston Martin

The former Formula 1 world champion will not be completely on the sidelines in 2026 either, as he became Aston Martin's new team ambassador starting this year.
