Ferrari reserve Antonio Giovinazzi was named WEC champion on the same evening he became a father.
"To become champion and father on the same night..."- Antonio Giovinazzi.
Whereas these two occasions tend to come a different moments in a driver's journey, they came on precisely the same night for Giovinazzi.
"To become champion and father on the same night...," said the Italian driver as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Along with Alessandro Pier Guidi (ITA) and James Calado (GBR), Giovinazzi clinched the Drivers' title, along with the Constructors' title, a double world championship feat that Ferrari hadn't achieved in over 50 years.
With two wins in Italy and Belgium, two P3's in Qatar and France, a P5 in the United States and a P4 in Bahrain, the #51 Ferrari AF Corse drivers clinched the title, and along with the #50 car's win in Qatar, and their podium finishes in Belgium, the United States and Bahrain, the team earned the Constructors' championship.
Yesterday evening Giovinazzi announced to the world the birth of his daughter, Ginevra Madia, via social media. "Together with mom we welcome you with all our love, welcome to the world," the Instagram post's caption read.
Ferrari chairman John Elkann criticised Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, saying drivers should “focus on driving and talk less” after a disastrous double DNF at Interlagos that hurt Ferrari’s fight with Mercedes for second in the Constructors’ Championship.
Praising mechanics and engineers for the improvements made by the Scuderia, he argued other areas are below standard and urged drivers to act for Ferrari rather than themselves. Read his full statements here.
