Despite a challenging start to his Ferrari journey so far, Rubens Barrichello still firmly believes in Lewis Hamilton’s abilities.
One of the drivers undoubtedly eager to return from the summer break is Lewis Hamilton.
After a first part of the season in which he rarely featured at the top of the standings (except for the sprint pole and sprint win in China), the seven-time world champion is ready to bounce back and finish the season strongly, while looking ahead to the real test in 2026.
The British driver made headlines at the most recent Grand Prix in Hungary, not so much for yet another disappointing result, but for comments he made over the weekend that put the spotlight on him.
Specifically, Lewis described himself as "useless" and suggested that Ferrari "probably need to change driver," expressing his frustration over the outcome.
Despite a somewhat muted season so far, there are still those who firmly believe in the seven-time world champion’s abilities.
One of them is Rubens Barrichello, Ferrari’s historic driver in the early 2000s, who in an interview with The Mirror spoke warmly about the 40-year-old from Stevenage.
"He is a super driver that deserves everything that he has conquered in the past," the former brazilian driver said.
“It’s not now that he’s forgotten how to drive,” he then added, expressing confidence that Hamilton could return to fighting for wins if Ferrari manages to put a competitive car in his hands, unlike this year.
With his twelfth-place finish in Hungary, Lewis fell 42 points behind his teammate, who secured Ferrari’s first pole of the season in Hungary and has also reached the podium five times in the first 14 races.
The goal for the remainder of the season is at least to secure a podium, but above all to regain a strong connection with the car, in order to be fully prepared for the new regulatory era.
