Force India famously operates with one of the smallest budgets in the Formula One, but still managed to finish fourth in the constructors' championship the last two years. This year that place is under more pressure than ever, but COO
Otmar Szafnauer thinks Force India could even compete for top three if they had a bit more budget.
Talking to RaceFans.net, Szafnauer speaks about the hopes of getting more budget so performances can improve further, as the team currently has the smallest budget out of all the teams alongside Sauber.
"It's no secret that there's a high correlation between money and success in this world," he said. "You can do well with limited resources, but you have to ask yourself it's even possible to be champions. Probably not. We're a bunch of racers and we want to do as well as possible. Our goal, when we get more resources, is to turn that into better performance from our part."
"Looking where we are now," he continued, "we'll need about fifteen million more pounds to compete for third place. You have to be clever if you want to end third, but I think we could do it with those resources."
Of course, getting third place compared to fourth also means about four million pounds extra in prize money.
"If you can get third, you get that money. But you need money first, before you can get third in the first place."
