Formula 1 has bad news for Dutch fans and Verstappen

Only one more edition of the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort is on the calendar before the plug is pulled on the race. It seems very unlikely that the race will return to the Formula 1 calendar, as can be inferred from the words of F1-CEO Stefano Domenicali.

The big boss of Formula One Management would have loved to have seen Formula 1 active in Zandvoort for many more years. But the Italian understands that it will end after 2026, as the financial risks are too great. After all, the Dutch race has to make do without government support and is completely dependent on revenue from ticket sales and sponsors.

Is there a chance, however, that a Dutch Grand Prix could continue to exist? Although this is not possible in Zandvoort, Assen may be a possible solution. Representatives of that track have repeatedly expressed their desire to host F1, but concrete steps towards that have not (yet) been taken.

Chance for a Grand Prix in Assen?

The question is whether it makes sense for Assen to make an attempt. Domenicali sounds not very promising in De Telegraaf. "Never say never. And if they want to talk to us, we always will. But I don't want to give them false hope. In the short term, there is little room on the Formula 1 calendar. The list of countries that want to organize a race is quite long," says the CEO.

It is now known that, for example, in Africa they want to organize a race. Portugal is also interested in bringing back Formula 1. In addition, there is interest from Asia, especially Malaysia and Thailand.
