Max Verstappen, according to Gerhard Berger, stands greater than Ayrton Senna. In an interview with Lucas Stewart, the Austrian revealed that for a long time he regarded Senna as the greatest until Verstappen entered the sport. According to Berger, Verstappen has pushed the boundaries in the pinnacle of motorsport.
Senna was amazing, but Verstappen is even better
Berger had the privilege of being Senna's teammate. From 1990 to 1992, he was a part of the McLaren team, with the legendary Ayrton Senna on the other side of the garage. Berger was asked what it was like to be teammates on the track, yet friends off the track.
‘’I think Ayrton was one of the best ever in our sport. Until a while back, I would have even said he was the greatest of all time. But Verstappen is raising the level. Ayrton was incredible, both on and off the track. It was very difficult to be a colleague, friend, and teammate all at the same time.’’

Gerhard Berger competed in Formula 1 from 1984 to 1997. The Austrian achieved ten victories and finished third in the championship three times. In the interview, Berger stated that he does not look to others when they perform better than himself.
‘’When someone else performs better than I do, I don't look to others. Instead, I look at myself, how can I improve? That was my way, and it allowed us to be friends with each other,’’ referring to his friendship with Senna.
Verstappen has a higher win percentage than Senna
Max Verstappen has already surpassed Senna in terms of victories. The Dutchman currently has 64 victories, while the Brazilian had 41. Verstappen's win percentage is 29.77%, and Senna's was 25.47%. Additionally, Verstappen has won the world championship one more time than Senna. This weekend, Verstappen heads to Imola, with updates, in pursuit of his second win of the season, at the circuit where Senna tragically lost his life 31 years ago.
