Helmut Marko has shed light on the key differences between Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel, two of Red Bull Racing’s most successful drivers.
“Vettel approached everything more analytically...”- Helmut Marko
The 82-year-old, who recently parted ways with the Red Bull Racing outfit, in his analysis of both multi-time world champions, pointed out Vettel for his analytical skill, while Verstappen initially relied heavily on his natural instinct.
Marko went on to emphasise how Verstappen has evolved into a complete driver over the years.
“Vettel approached everything more analytically, spending hours and hours with the engineers to get the last bit of performance out of the car. Max initially relied more on his natural instinct, but today he has matured into a driver who knows exactly what he wants and can also lead a team,” Marko said to German outlet, Merkur.

The Graz native continued by pointing out how super talented Verstappen remains and how he’s never shared any close bond with any driver like the Dutchman throughout his stint at the Milton Keynes-based outfit.
“Verstappen is special. Super fast, super talented, and extremely focused. I've never had a closer connection with any other driver. He has steadfast values that I would only attribute to people who also have good character. This combination is extremely rare.”
Marko witnessed both Vettel and Verstappen develop into world-beaters during his stint at Red Bull Racing. Both drivers so far have four Drivers’ Championships respectively to their names, all achieved at the Milton Keynes-based outfit.
Earlier, Marko admitted to being partly responsible for the championship loss Verstappen suffered in 2025.
The Austrian admitted the team were unable to provide the 28-year-old with a competitive car early enough for him to fight for the drivers’ title.
