Marko has good news for Verstappen fans ahead of Italian GP

Helmut Marko believes Red Bull can, theoretically, still fight for multiple wins this season. Monza, however, will not be one of those opportunities, the Austrian cautioned.

After a run of particularly tough races, Red Bull bounced back at Zandvoort. Max Verstappen started from P3, which for much of the race looked to be the maximum possible result. But when Lando Norris retired late on, Verstappen was promoted to second at the flag.

Yuki Tsunoda also delivered a boost for the team, finishing in the points for the first time since the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in May.

After the race, Verstappen stated he was very satisfied with his second place, a reasonable reaction according to Marko: "You have to be realistic," the Red Bull advisor told the Austrian oe24.

McLaren from 'another planet', according to Marko

"It's as if McLaren is from another planet. When they step on the gas, they have a three-quarter-second lead on us [per lap]."

Yet, Marko also sees a positive development: "We have, at least, detached ourselves from Ferrari and Mercedes, who are a second behind."

When asked if the team would be able to win races by its own strength this year, the Austrian replied: "On circuits like Baku, Austin, Jeddah, or Mexico, it could definitely work – the sooner, the better."

Do Verstappen and Red Bull stand a chance in Monza?

Although the Austrian sees chances to win in the remaining eight races, he thinks it will be difficult to reach the podium next weekend in Italy. "That's too early," he responded clearly.

"Besides, there are too many chicanes. Behind the McLarens, even a podium position will be difficult for us. Piastri will be looking forward to the next race calmly – now that the world championship is probably over for him."
