It’s looking increasingly likely that the 2025 title fight will come down to Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The two drivers hold a commanding lead, with 97 and 88 points respectively over third-place Max Verstappen. Juan Pablo Montoya predicts that some drama will unfold between them, especially with world champions like Verstappen in the mix.

When asked how McLaren ensures that the two don’t feel too much pressure and will hit each other, Montoya replied: “I think the rules need to be clear. The only way to prevent Armageddon there is to say if you hit your teammate on purpose, we’re going to make sure the other guy wins.”

It already went wrong once when Norris rear-ended Piastri in Canada, with only the Brit facing consequences and retiring from the race.

After that, the Australian came close to colliding with his teammate on two occasions. In Austria, Piastri locked his brakes, narrowly avoiding Norris, and a similar situation unfolded in Hungary.

Verstappen and Hamilton unfairly F1 champions?

Montoya was then asked whether, whatever happens, the loser of the title fight will leave McLaren.

The Colombian responded: ''No, because they both have contracts. Whoever wins would create an awkward situation for a while, but they’ll get over it.''

''Was Senna politically correct? Was Senna correct in the way he won races and championships? No. Was Prost fair? No. Was Lewis fair? No. Schumacher? No. Was Max? No.''

“What is interesting for me is that you hear Zak saying, this is Lando’s era. It’s an interesting thing because you haven’t heard Zak saying, this is Oscar’s era. He’s always said this is Lando’s era.”
