Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were locked in a closely knit battle for the title, however, after his DNF at the Dutch Grand Prix the gap has grown from 9 points to 34, something former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher can only describe as 'helpful.'

Throughout the entire weekend, not only Norris, but McLaren showed why they are currently the best out of the top of the crop teams in F1, Schumacher noted speaking to Sky.

"The whole weekend was great of him and that's what Formula 1 is all about.

"That such a team can move forward. The team has been strong all year, but to crown it like this is great," added Schumacher, who couldn't help but add a finishing touch to his praise.

"It's nice to see how consistent they are."

The German then turned his attention to the aftermath of the race retirement the incumbent McLaren British driver suffered in the closing stages of the race in the Dutch dunes.

For Schumacher, it can only be 'helpful.' Saying these words, though, the former F1 driver now in his role as analyst was perfectly aware of how outlandish they may have sounded.

"As crazy as it sounds, it takes a bit of pressure off his shoulders.

"The retirement was not his fault and all he can do is fight and hope that he can get the points back on the track and maybe have a bit of luck.

"I know it sounds weird, but it's actually helpful for him mentally," the German concluded.
