Oscar Piastri’s victory at the Dutch Grand Prix drew some subtle comparisons with Michael Schumacher. The McLaren driver, however, has responded to talks of him being compared to the multiple world champion.

Piastri, who clinched his seventh win of the campaign and extended his lead atop the drivers’ standings, has largely been likened to the former Scuderia Ferrari driver due to his calm demeanour and the few mistakes he often makes.

However, when quizzed about this during his post-race interaction with the media, including GPblog, the Australian driver responded:

“Anytime you get mentioned in the same sentence as Michael Schumacher, that’s a good thing. I’ve got a hell of a long way to go to be talked about in the same air as someone like him, but I’ll take it.”

Oscar Piastri’s win at the Dutch dunes also moved him closer to a record currently held by Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The 24-year-old could well eclipse their record if he continues to finish in the points through the final nine races of the campaign.

Oscar Piastri extends lead atop drivers’ standings

Oscar Piastri also extended his lead atop the drivers’ standings with his win at the Dutch Grand Prix. The McLaren driver stretched his nine-point lead over teammate Lando Norris to 34 after his P1 finish, with his teammate suffering a DNF.

The Alpine academy graduate will now aim to continue his impressive form when the Formula 1 grid heads to the Italian Grand Prix in Monza for round 16 of the 2025 campaign.
