Mick Schumacher has completed his first IndyCar test, calling the series a “good option."
“We all have a couple of days and weeks to think about it and see what opportunities there are for the future."- Mick Schumacher
The German driver tested for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on Monday.
After his experience, Schumacher said that he wants to continue racing in single-seaters, and that IndyCar might be the best option available to him. This season, he competed for Alpine in WEC.
"IndyCar comes the closest to what I can still race, I can’t go back to [Formula 2] because I won a championship. IndyCar might be a good option," is quoted by IndyCar’s official website.
After winning the F2 title, Schumacher completed two seasons in total, achieving a sixth-place finish as his best result in Austria in 2022.
Since then, the German has been chasing a return to Formula 1, but it has yet to materialize.
“Obviously, my target the past couple of years has been to go back to Formula One, but that option hasn’t quite opened up this year or the years previous to that. So, at some point I want to race again in single-seaters, and therefore (this) option is a good one."
Should Schumacher sign with a team, it wouldn't be the first time that a former Formula 1 driver would join the American series as a full-time driver.
Schumacher’s former F2 rivals, such as Robert Shwartzman, Callum Ilott, and Marcus Armstrong, also competed in the 2025 IndyCar season.
About his future, the German commented: "It’s a decision that lies with both sides, and I think obviously in this moment, I guess it’s mostly on my end because I have to figure out if I want to do (IndyCar) or not.

He is also interested in trying out oval racing. "I might as well (as) it’s what the (series) is about, and I think it would be wrong to just do one part of (the races). If I were to commit (to IndyCar), I’d like to commit to it fully."
The German then once again underlined his passion for single-seater racing.
"I want to enjoy racing, and to do that I want to find where I feel most at home. I’m not saying Europe or WEC or any of those other championships aren’t that, but I feel maybe racing (single seaters) is always what I wanted to do," he concluded.
