If Lewis Hamilton finishes outside the top 3 in Austin, he will break the record for the most races at Ferrari without a podium finish in Formula 1.

He currently ties the unfortunate record of 18 podium-less races with Didier Pironi and Austin - the 19th round of the 2025 season - is Hamilton’s last chance to avoid it taking it outright.

Hamilton has a record 202 podiums in F1 but has thus far endured an unsuccessful debut season with the Scuderia - the highlight a sprint race victory in the second event in China.

Trophyless in red

Didier Pironi’s trophyless stint spanned his entire 15-race debut season with Ferrari in 1981 and the first 3 events of 1982 season.

The Frenchman eventually broke his duck with a victory at the San Marino GP in 1982, famously defying team orders to fend-off teammate Gilles Villeneuve.

He went on to score a further five podiums in seven races before suffering a tragic accident at the German GP which ended his F1 career.

Hamilton’s last hope

The seven-time world champion has rarely troubled the top three places this season, scoring 4th place finishes in Imola, Austria and Great Britain.

Teammate Charles Leclerc - who finished P3 in just his second race for Ferrari - has scored five podiums so far in 2025.

It's been a disappointing season all-round for Ferrari, who have thus far failed to win a race in 2025 and sit third in the constructors' championship.

Hamilton will hope his fortunes change at the Circuit of the Americas, a circuit he has historically performed well at with five race wins in the past.
