The Formula 2 paddock arrived in Budapest to blistering sunshine and track temps that had tyres melting before the session even began. The technical, twisty layout of the Hungaroring is always a driver’s circuit—and today, Roman Stanek was the one who danced best through the Hungarian curves.
The Invicta Racing driver delivered a lightning lap of 1:28.779, snatching pole position in the dying moments of the session and triggering cheers from the Czech fans in the grandstands.
And guess who’s right behind him? Leonardo Fornaroli, his own teammate. That’s right—Invicta Racing locked out the front row, a rare and frankly mouth-watering scenario heading into the rest of the weekend.
Qualifying kicked off with a frantic scramble for clean air. As always at the Hungaroring, traffic was chaos and track position was king. Most drivers bolted on two sets of softs, with the fastest laps coming in the final five minutes.
Stanek timed his run perfectly and pieced together a near-flawless lap—aggressive on turn-in, tidy at the chicane, and with just enough bravery into Turn 14 to make it count.
Fornaroli was quick but not enough to close the gap from his teammate and steal his pole position. Still, P2 is a phenomenal result for the young Italian, and a clear sign that Invicta has nailed their setup this weekend after winning in Spa.
Just behind, Jak Crawford was inches from splitting the Invicta duo. He looked sharp through Sector 1 and ended just +0.173s off pole—P3, and in prime position to attack on Sunday. For tomorrow instead the spanish Pepe Martì and the Irish Alex Dunne will start from the front row.
