The next Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar is in Zandvoort. The Dutch Grand Prix will be run in the last weekend of August. Will Lewis Hamilton enjoy the racing in the Dutch dunes? This is what the Ferrari driver has to say about the Grand Prix on Dutch soil.
Actually, Hamilton only has good words to say about the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. "It's like an old house that's got real character.''
How does a house get character? Through all its little faults and irregularities. Many race tracks are completely flat, but this one was created in a time without modern technology.
As a result, it has pits and bumps because the ground and hills are moving," the seven-time world champion of Ferrari told Viaplay.
''It's got lots of imperfections. I think the undulations really give it a huge amount of character as well.''
''A lot of tracks are built on flats, whereas it's built in a time where they didn't have that technology and it's aged. There's bumps from like things on the ground all over the hills moving so that just creates for me one of the best tracks that we get to race on.''
Not only is the track classic, but the fans are very important to Hamilton as well: ''It's been amazing to see the fans there each year. They also really make that race what it is.''
It seems like Hamilton is going to make a special announcement on August 8.
On social media, he shared a cryptic video that showed photos being moved away before a match was lit. "We’ve struck the match. Now follow the smoke", was the caption under the seven-time world champion's post. What Hamilton will reveal is unclear, but speculation is already rife.
