Max Verstappen crossed the finish line in ninth place. A challenging weekend for Red Bull Racing. F2 contender Richard Verschoor saw once again the his compatriot making things happen on track.
The MP Motorsport driver saw that the defending world champion had to deal with dirty air, starting from the middle of the pack.
He also commented on the updates brought to this weekend by Red Bull Racing. "They try everything they can to make the car better. Sometimes it requires a bit more time, before they really understand how exactly the update works in order to extract the maximum from it. But part of the problem was his starting position - he simply spent very little time in clean air,” he said in the NOS podcast.
“As a result, he couldn't maintain his own pace and they tried to adjust with the strategy, by pitting earlier. But then he was back in traffic. And what's great to see about Max is that he's constantly overtaking, in that chicane for example, where you hardly see it happening. He still makes more out of it than it should have been," Verschoor, who is third in F2 in the standings, added.
During the Grand Prix, race control shared the stewards will investigate Verstappen's overtake on Lewis Hamilton.
Talking to GPblog among others, he said after the race: "Well the thing is that nothing happened, we didn't even touch. For me it's a bit difficult to understand why we have the investigation after the race. We explained our sides of the story - well Lewis was not there."
In the end, the four-time world champion did not receive a penalty.
