It’s often suggested that the RB21 is built around Max Verstappen, as his teammates struggle to handle the Red Bull car as effectively as the Dutchman. When the topic came up in an interview, Verstappen gave a clear response.

Last weekend was generally not an easy one for Verstappen. Based purely on performance and strategy, the Dutchman didn't get further than ninth place.

Meanwhile, McLaren took a 1-2 finish and direct competitor George Russell came third in the race at the Hungaroring, increasing the pressure on the third position in the championship.

Is the RB21 designed around Verstappen?

After the race, Verstappen was interviewed by Sky Sports. During the interview, it was noted that people often say the Red Bull car is built around the Dutchman — yet even he is struggling with it.

To which Verstappen replied: "Designed for me? I don't think that's true.''

The interviewer then suggested that she understood that the car wasn't built around the four-time world champion, but that only Verstappen can handle the car, because of his talent.

Verstappen then replied back: ''It's very complicated to explain because this weekend nothing worked unfortunately, and I think in Spa we had a much more competitive weekend.''

''I know we're not on the level of McLaren but they're also doing a really good job this year. But this this is a bit weird for us and that's something that we just need to investigate.''
