Over the Monza weekend, much attention has been focused on Max Verstappen’s recent comments about the possibility of driving for Ferrari one day.

In the most important week of the season for Italian fans and for Ferrari, Max Verstappen still managed to make headlines once again.

On the eve of the Monza weekend, the four-time world champion hinted at the possibility of driving for the Maranello team one day—though only if he sees a genuine chance of winning.

"I think Ferrari is a massive brand, and of course all the drivers, they see and they picture themselves of, ‘I would like to drive for Ferrari,’ but I think that's also where the mistake comes, just to drive for Ferrari," he told GPblog on Thursday.

"If you want to drive for Ferrari, you want to win. So if I would ever want to go there, I don't go there just to drive for Ferrari, I go there because I see the opportunity to win. And if you win with Ferrari, that's even better."

Words that, unsurprisingly, have stirred the passion of Ferrari fans, who dream of seeing another multiple world champion join their ranks—following Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, and, more recently, Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen to speak Italian one day?

During one of the fan sessions over the weekend, Max Verstappen made an appearance right in front of them, answering a question that sparked some discontent among the crowd—obviously in a sarcastic way.

The Dutchman indeed stated: “I don’t have any reason yet to actually learn Italian… I don’t know. Maybe.”

More recently, Verstappen followed up on his Thursday comments by answering the question of whether he would ever drive for Ferrari. His response was: "I don't know. The thing was also, they have two drivers contracted for next year anyway, right?''

''So, then there is no discussion anyway. At the moment that [a Ferrari drive] was not on the horizon. But you know, I don't even know how long I'm driving in Formula 1.''
