Max Verstappen expressed clear disappointment after the Belgian Grand Prix for its delayed start. The Red Bull Racing driver explains why, in his eyes, the race could have simply gone ahead. At the same time, he saw that the weather conditions revealed a weak point of the RB21.

The rain led to a long delay on Sunday afternoon at Spa-Francorchamps, so the Grand Prix didn't start until the conditions had significantly improved. Verstappen didn't understand this decision at all.

"Of course, at the end of the day, they do what they want. I mean, they decide. But I just find it is a bit of a shame for everyone," he said.

Verstappen: ‘That's very difficult to resolve’

Verstappen stresses that the conditions later in the afternoon were manageable. "And I think also the rain that fell afterwards was still manageable if we would have kept lapping anyway. And then you make all the decisions based on wet racing, so then it also just ruins your whole race a bit."

According to Verstappen, a podium was the maximum achievable for him, but eventually finished behind Charles Leclerc. "Realistically P3 would have been the highest possible. We were very close to that, but at the same time it also still highlighted our weaknesses with the car. And that's something that is not so easy to fix at the moment," he explains.

Asked about the comments from various drivers, who complained about poor visibility on the wet track before the scheduled start, Verstappen responds that they should have just driven on. "The more you run, it will be much better. And if you can't see you can always lift and then at one point, you will see," the four-time world champion concluded.
