Mercedes CEO and team principal Toto Wolff says Mercedes have their "little secrets" when it comes to decisions being made about car developments for this season, along with 2026. Of course,
Formula 1 takes a huge leap into the unknown next year, with the 2026 regulations shaking up the pinnacle of motorsport hugely. A return of active aerodynamics, plus a 300% increase in electrical power in power units, are just two of the many changes that teams will have to deal with.
The key question for many teams will be whether they should stop developing their 2025 car already and focus on the major changes for next season.
For Mercedes, an interesting decision will have to be made. The German team currently sit P2 in the constructors' championships,
with updates that are coming to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, hopefully closing the gap at the top to McLaren. But a lack of development into their 2026 car means they could start the next campaign on the back foot.

Wolff and Mercedes keeping their cards close to their chest
In Miami, the Mercedes team principal was asked where the focus on development lies with that quandary in mind. But the Austrian team boss was not giving anything away.
"I think every team will have their little secrets," said a cryptic Wolff in Friday's constructors' press conference at the Miami Grand Prix.
"But it's also a bit of a moving target. All of us have transitioned certain groups within the aero department or larger groups in the design office that are only looking at next year's car, obviously. And the performance slope is very steep.
"You’re adding lots of downforce in because it's the early days, and that's going to flatten. But if a team has started doing it one and a half months earlier in terms of transitioning resources, that can be a big advantage next year," the Austrian concluded.
