Wolff makes big Verstappen admission after US Grand Prix win
Toto Wolff has heaped praise on Max Verstappen as the Dutch driver continues to cut the gap at the top of the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship.

The Mercedes team principal, who spoke to GPblog, lauded Verstappen’s form while highlighting how the Red Bull Racing outfit have turned a corner over the last few races.
“Max is great, but I wouldn’t be able to see whether any other driver can. They’ve just turned the car around, and that car is the most competitive at the moment. He’s scoring the big points, and he’s as good as it gets as a driver.”
Verstappen has outscored both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in the title fight since the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.
The Red Bull Racing star further reduced the deficit to the McLaren pair with victories in both the Sprint and the race during the United States Grand Prix.
Verstappen speaks on his title chances
While Wolff remains in awe of Verstappen’s resurgence, the 28-year-old himself has weighed in on his chances of winning the 2025 Drivers’ title.
Verstappen, who took a dominant victory at the Circuit of the Americas, stated that there is still a chance for him to clinch the championship; however, that would depend on Red Bull maintaining their recent form through the final races of the campaign.
Since the Grand Prix in Zandvoort, Verstappen has cut the gap to Piastri from 104 to 40 points, with five races and two Sprints left on the 2025 calendar.
