Title-deciding Abu Dhabi 2021 Safety Car now on sale at eye-watering price

The Aston Martin Vantage Safety Car used during the dramatic closing stages of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has been put up for sale for a staggering £599,990.

The car played a pivotal role in the season finale at Yas Marina, when it was deployed in the final laps after a decision by Michael Masi — a moment that ultimately swung the championship battle, which had looked set to go Hamilton’s way before Verstappen sealed the title on the last lap.

Now listed on the Auto Trader website, the vehicle featured at 20 Grands Prix between 2021 and 2023, covering 4,280 kilometres across race appearances and testing duties.

The 2026 Formula 1 regulations have been widely discussed for months, largely because of the new equal split between electric and combustion power — a change that has divided fans and insiders alike as the championship continues to move in a more sustainability-driven direction.

In a recent interview, Formula E co-founder Alberto Longo suggested that Formula 1’s stronger commitment to electrification is ultimately helping the electric series as well.

He explained that energy management has long been a core element of Formula E’s identity, adding that Formula 1 should remain focused on its own path given that Formula E already holds the position of a fully electric world championship.

At the same time, he acknowledged that F1’s shift towards electrified technology is raising awareness and indirectly supporting Formula E’s growth, stressing that a successful Formula 1 ultimately benefits the wider motorsport ecosystem, including his own series.
