Everything’s set for the first practice session of the Mexican GP — follow it live with GPblog!
After an eventful Austin weekend that once again saw Max Verstappen come out on top, Formula 1 now heads to Mexico for Round 20 of the season — the fifth-to-last stop on the 2025 calendar.
The Dutchman’s dominant double in Texas — winning both the sprint and the Grand Prix — combined with McLaren’s Saturday disaster and Oscar Piastri’s fifth place on Sunday allowed him to cut his championship deficit to 40 points. Now, Verstappen will be looking to take another big step in Mexico.
He arrives at a circuit he’s always thrived on, having taken five victories here already. Last year, however, it was the scene of a fierce wheel-to-wheel fight with Lando Norris that sparked plenty of post-race debate.
We’ll soon find out what awaits this weekend — FP1 gets underway at 19:30 CET (18:30 UK time), and you can follow every moment live on GPblog.

Several teams have chosen to use the opening session in Mexico to tick off the mandatory rookie requirement — which means that each team must give two FP1 outings per car to a young driver during the season.
Among them are Red Bull, with Arvid Lindblad stepping in for Max Verstappen, Antonio Fuoco replacing Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, and Frederik Vesti taking over George Russell’s Mercedes. All regular drivers will return to their cars for the afternoon session.
Here’s the full list of drivers taking part in FP1.
