Aston Martin has a selection of ingredients that could lead them towards world championships, such as Fernando Alonso and Adrian Newey in their ranks. Despite this, Lance Stroll admitted what the team may need to rely on to score points in 2025.
It has been a mixed season for the team based near the Silverstone circuit as they sit sixth in the Constructors' Championship, but they have scored points in five of the last six races.
Double world champion Alonso pushed the Aston Martin to a fifth-place finish last time out in Hungary. It was an opportunistic drive, as the Spaniard capitalised on lacklustre days for Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
Meanwhile, Stroll has endured a disrupted season as he withdrew from the Spanish Grand Prix but did score a seventh-place finish at Silverstone and in Hungary.
Despite this good form, Stroll wasn't too optimistic about Aston Martin keeping up the momentum after the summer break prior to the race in Hungary. The Canadian feels the team may need to capitalise on chaotic races like the British Grand Prix to break into the top 10.
He said in the press conference on Thursday in Hungary: "At the moment, it feels like it. On a normal dry weekend, maybe if the track suits the car perfectly and we get everything out of it, we can snag a point or two. But it feels like a lot of the time, it's those kinds of weekends that we're relying on to mix things up and get something out of it."
Aston Martin have shown flashes of speed across the ground effect era as Alonso achieved six podiums in the first eight races in 2023 but have since fallen behind.
Stroll is adamant the team back at Silverstone are working tirelessly to improve the car and Aston Martin want to race nearer the sharp end of the field.
He added: "We're not as competitive as we want to be, that’s for sure. As a team, we want to be fighting further up and scoring more points every weekend. Spa was a difficult weekend for us, just not fast enough.
"There's a lot of work going on back at Silverstone to keep pushing, keep making the car faster. Some fun races for sure this season, some fun wet races where we capitalised on opportunities and scored some points. Those ones tasted good, but we want to be faster."
