Scuderia Ferrari team principal, Frederic Vasseur, has hailed Lewis Hamilton following his outing at the Italian Grand Prix. The 57-year-old expressed confidence, detailing that the seven-time champion was back to form following his race in Monza.

The French motorsport chief, who spoke to Sky Sports F1 following the conclusion of the race, detailed how pleased he was with the performance of the British driver. Vasseur also detailed how it was a really good race for Hamilton in Monza.

"He came back. With the penalty, he was in the middle of the pack but had a strong first stint. We tried to have a tyre advantage at the end [against Russell] but the degradation was too low.”

"It was a very good race and I'm very pleased for him because he had a tough time in July and he's back, back on the pace. He had a good weekend, a good mood, a good approach, and I think it will help [for the rest of the season]."

Hamilton, who finished the race in sixth place on his part also acknowledged to have largely experienced a largely great weekend. However, he also highlighted how, in hindsight, he could have recorded a better outing.

The Scuderia Ferrari chief also weighed in on the performance of Charles Leclerc. Vasseur detailed how the goal was to ensure the Monegasque driver finishes on the podium.

The team principal, however, detailed how the overheating of the tyres played a part in the outing of the 27-year-old.

"The target was to finish on the podium. Charles did a strong race, a very good fight at the beginning, but we overheated the tyres. We were not that far away from McLaren. Max was flying."
