Tyre supplier Pirelli has announced which tyres will be available for the upcoming F1 race at the Circuit Zandvoort, the Dutch Grand Prix.
Zandvoort is a circuit with many fast corners. The long banked turns like the Hugenholtz turn and the Arie Luyendijk turn demand a lot from the tyres. In addition, there are also a few places where the rear tyres are particularly under strain. The exit from the slow chicane in the last sector is a critical point of the lap.
Pirelli states in an official press release that tyre wear will be extremely high at Zandvoort. The grip and roughness of the asphalt are average. The combination of these has led to the choice of available compounds during what is to be Max Verstappen's fifth home race.
Pirelli has opted for medium range compounds for the upcoming event. The C2 will be the hard tyre, the C3 the medium, and the C4 the soft. So, the hardest tyres were not chosen.
Pirelli explains: "In terms of the outright amount of energy exerted, Suzuka, Lusail, Silverstone and Spa are all harder on tyres than Zandvoort.
"However, the track that hosts the Dutch Grand Prix is the one where energy density is highest, due to several factors including its relatively short length, the high number of corners, combined with the lack of straights where tyres could be rested and cool down."
Although this is the choice that Pirelli has made for the dry weather tyres, there's a chance we won't see them much during the race weekend. Rain is forecasted every day for the F1 sessions.
