Laurent Mekies has been the team boss of Red Bull Racing for a few weeks now. What does Max Verstappen think so far of the Frenchman's leadership and what is the atmosphere like now at the Austrian team?
Laurent Mekies was appointed immediately after Christian Horner was fired as the new team boss of Red Bull Racing. The Belgian Grand Prix was the first weekend where the Frenchman took on this role.
During the weekend in Spa-Francorchamps, Max Verstappen won the sprint race. Due to a rain adjustment during a dry Grand Prix, the Dutchman couldn't make up much ground on Sunday.
The Grand Prix weekend in Hungary was Mekies' second weekend. This weekend went a lot more difficult with ultimately a ninth place for Verstappen and a seventeenth place for Yuki Tsunoda.
The race weekend in the Netherlands will be the French team boss's third weekend. As a result, Mekies has had a few weeks to acclimate. When the new team boss was just appointed, Verstappen was immediately positive about him and his approach. But how does the Red Bull Racing driver now view his performance?
“He joined quickly and then had two weeks, and then you had a break again,” Verstappen said in Zandvoort. “It's not suddenly that a lot of things are changing. But I like the approach that he's having."
"It seems like everyone is very positive about the mood in the team. Also, when I see people walk around and when we’re talking. So, yeah, we just need to keep that going. It's not like, when you put someone in charge, that in two weeks or two months, things can drastically change. It takes time," the Dutchman stated.
