Max Verstappen finished in third place in qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix behind the two McLarens. Top advisor Helmut Marko talked exclusively to GPblog after the session.

The two McLarens battled it out for pole position today in the Netherlands, but Max Verstappen could secure third place on the grid for tomorrow's Grand Prix.

The Dutchman finished 0.263 second behind pole sitter Oscar Piastri.

Talking to GPblog, Red Bull external advisor Helmut Marko was also encouraged by the Dutchman cutting the gap to the Woking-based team.

"[Nine tenths behind] This morning and now we are only two tenths [behind], so I think that puts us in a position to make McLaren at least nervous tomorrow," the Austrian began.

Looking ahead to the start on Sunday, he continued about whether Verstappen will have the chance to overtake. "Yeah, why not? We know what Max is capable of, but at least we are there."

Marko sees clear strategy for the Dutch Grand Prix

"There’s not much in it. It's definitely a one-stop strategy," Marko shared his verdict.

Rain could be on the cards on Sunday as well in the Netherlands.

"Max for sure is the best in the rain, but I believe that McLaren also have very good tyre management in the rain. But we are close enough to make it exciting."
