Hamilton chases Monza history as Ferrari and Verstappen target new records

The Italian Grand Prix is up next on the Formula 1 calendar, and several records could be broken this weekend at the iconic ‘Temple of Speed.’

The Monza circuit, which is currently the fastest on the F1 calendar, has, over the years, been a track which several drivers and teams have etched their names into the annals of the sport.

From Lewis Hamilton to the Scuderia Ferrari team and Alex Albon and Max Verstappen, several records could be eclipsed at this weekend’s Grand Prix, and we take you through a list of records that could be broken this weekend at Monza.

First, Alex Albon could move up the ladder with the Williams Racing team. The Thai native could become the driver with the third most races for the Grove-based outfit, surpassing the 82 starts Riccardo Patrese achieved with the team.

Hamilton and Ferrari's record at Monza

Lewis Hamilton is also within touching distance of several records, as the Ferrari driver would see Italy become the third country — after Britain and Hungary — he has won at least eight races if he manages to win this weekend in Monza. If he also takes the fastest lap, he would become the first driver to take the fastest lap at least eight times at a single Grand Prix.

For the Scuderia Ferrari outfit, the team could equal its record for the most wins at a single race event. The Marenello-based outfit boast 20 Italian GP wins, but have won the German Grand Prix on 21 occasions.

Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli

Max Verstappen is also within touching distance of a rather surprising record, as a points-scoring finish for him in Monza will see him surpass his former teammate Sergio Perez on the list of drivers who have scored points the most at Grands Prix.

The Dutch driver is currently on 188 and would overtake Perez if he finishes in the top 10 at the Italian Grand Prix.

Home crowd favourite Kimi Antonelli could also become the first driver to clinch his maiden F1 race win on home soil since Johnny Herbert achieved a similar feat during the 1995 British Grand Prix.
